HSD Private Instructors List (Revised April 2015)

posted Apr 20, 2015, 9:55 AM by Adam Gumble

The achievement of the musical ensembles across the Hempfield School District is a direct reflection of the quality of each member. Every student musician plays a vital role in the success of our overall program!

There is no substitute for weekly sessions of individualized instruction by an instrument specialist. As lessons are not offered during the instructional day at the middle level, we recommend that students look into private instruction for their child upon entering 7th Grade. The list of Private Lesson Instructors in the Lancaster area is attached in PDF form!

Private lesson instructors serve as an ideal model and mentor to assist in your child's improvement in the areas of tone, technique and general musicianship. The helpful hints or minor adjustments suggested by the instructor will greatly improve your child's playing ability and, as a result, their enjoyment of our music program!

  • Specific Fees, Lesson Availability will Vary
  • For a more specific recommendation based on your individual interests/needs, please contact your band director!

NEW Tuning Packet!

posted Sep 8, 2014, 7:34 AM by Adam Gumble   [ updated Sep 8, 2014, 7:35 AM ]

Many students feel as though their instruments should come "ready-made" to press down the right keys, blow some air, and play in tune! Unfortunately, we live in a world where even professional instruments have notes that are naturally out of tune, so it is up to the individual player to know their instrument and adjust accordingly!

The attached packet contains an Intonation Chart as well as some helpful tips to live a more in-tune existence with your instrument! Thank you to Fred J. Allen of Stephen F. Austin University!

Cheers!

3MP Documents

posted Feb 4, 2014, 9:48 PM by Adam Gumble   [ updated Feb 4, 2014, 10:19 PM ]

Greetings, all! Attached to this post you will find:
  • 3MP Rehearsal Map (you are responsible for preparing material for each rehearsal)
  • 3MP Assessment Sheet (includes Lit Excerpts)
  • Performance Levels Rubric (in case you don't have this handy)
  • Literature Strips (to keep in your folder for self-evaluation)
  • Macro Goals Sheet (for your long-term planning)
  • Major Scales and Arpeggios (for EVERY instrument!)
Arpeggios > You will notice the addition of "Major Arpeggios" to our Skill Builders. For those that are not familiar, these are simply broken chords (Do-Mi-Sol-Do-Sol-Mi-Do) that are found in music. Following scales, these are the most critical patterns for musicians to commit to muscle memory as they are sprinkled throughout music fairly liberally. We will begin to work these into our Daily Drill, so I would recommend adding them to your Weekly Goals!

Chop Busters 1 > Concert Band members will notice "Chop Busters 1" as part of their 3MP assessment. Parts are available for download at Concert Ensembles > Downloads of this site.

REMEMBER > Your success is a residue of your preparation! Ensure that you reach your highest achievement level possible through planning and preparation!
